February

This is a book called the Moccasin Goalie from the U of M Science Crate. When our teacher finished the story, we had to comment on how we felt about the book. We made beading artwork on a mitten with markers to go with the story. It's called the Moccasin Goalie because the boy has a disability so he can't wear skates, instead he wears moccasins to play hockey.

Here we are making three different kinds of cubes with marshmallows and toothpicks. We put books on the cubes to see which cube is stronger. We learned that the second cube was stronger because it has triangles which are the strongest shape!

Pam came to talking circle and we learned the seven teachings. We also learned about the sacred medicines. She taught us about the seven holes in our heads.

Here are some of our journal entries from the talking circles:

- Pam taught us that if you take something from mother earth, you have to give something back like sage, tobacco and sweet grass! - Grace

- Love is an eagle, wisdom is a beaver. - Nicholas

Here are some things I learned about Pam: She is super nice, she is very full of spirit and she trusts us because she shared very important stuff to her with us. In the 7 teachings we learned love, respect, courage, humility, honesty, wisdom and truth. - Leila Ann

We were making our own structures out of different objects. We made things with our recyclables. We learned that a structure has to be stable.

This is us painting our pottery at pottery club!

We all made our own Valentine's boxes to put in our Valentine's cards and candy. We had a Valentine's party.

Sometimes we dance to exercise and have a brain break, especially on days we don't have gym or if it's indoor recess.

We are learning about fractions in math. We used blocks to help us.

Here we made pictures of ourselves in the forest being a voyageur. We learned a lot about the voyageurs and we had to write a different sentence for each one. We also played voyageur bingo.

Here is our pottery!

Here we are enjoying our pancake lunch on our Festival du voyageur activity day!

Here is our Inukshuk artwork. We read a book about a lonely Inukshuk in French and we learned about what the different kinds of Inukshuks mean.

Here is Constable Rochon who came to talk to us about personal safety. We learned about not talking to strangers. We also learned that it is important that we know our personal information, such as our address and phone number.

Some other visitors we had were Constable Alanna and our new caretaker, Mr. Magian. They read to us for I love to read month!

Here we are solving a problem with blocks. We also used blocks to learn about multiplication this month. Some other strategies we used were repeated addition and skip counting.

The symphony was great and funny! We really enjoyed the music!

Here we are presenting the Three Little Pigs play in French. Each group presented and acted out their characters.

We used the science crate from the University of Manitoba to work on science centres. Some of the structures we built were the arch of an igloo, a rooftop, a tipi, a hogan, a boat and a totem pole. We also got to look at the many books for each centre. We learned about First Nations structures and the materials used.

On literacy day we went to different centres with our groups and did activities in our pyjamas! After the last recess we read with our book buddies in the gym. We are working on a paragraph about our book buddy so we will never forget them!

In English we are working on fractured fairy tales. Mme read us many different fractured fairy tales. Ask me which one was my favourite. Next month we will be working on writing one of our own!

We hope you liked our pictures!
